Nanjing University Hosts "The Silk Road to the Future" Event

Nanjing University on July 20 hosted this year s "The Silk Road to the Future" event, a program sponsored by the Legends of China Foundation to promote cultural exchanges between Chinese and U.S. university students. Over 300 students and faculty members from Nanjing University, the University of California and the University of Texas participated in this annual event.
Participants were required to each create a piece of silk artwork focusing upon the theme of World Peace. "The Silk Road to the Future" Award Ceremony was held later to present awards to 16 works 8 by Chinese students and 8 by U.S. students chosen by the panel. Prof. Pan Yi, Vice President of Nanjing University, attended and addressed the award ceremony.
By 2008, upwards of 10,000 Chinese and U.S. university students and faculty had participated in this program. A banner comprised of over 10,000 silk pieces had been formed. This special banner was on exhibit in Beijing Olympic Exhibition.
Beginning in 2009, "The Silk Road to the Future" will go global by setting a new banner-length goal of 40,076 silk pieces.This new banner will represent the circumference of the earth s equator the distance around our globe.
