Nanjing University on May 20 held a celebration meeting to commemorate its 107th founding anniversary at the Great Hall. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Hong Yinxing, Chancellor of Nanjing University. Prof. Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University, spoke at the meeting. In his speech, Prof. Chen Jun briefly reviewed the history of NanjingUniversity and encouraged our faculty and students to strive to build our university into a world-class university.
Nanjing University dates from 1902 when it was known as SanjiangNormal School. During the following decades, it evolved as LiangjiangNormal School, NanjingHigherNormal School, NationalSoutheastUniversity, the FourthZhongshanUniversity, and NationalCentralUniversity. On August 8, 1949, NationalCentralUniversity was renamed NationalNanjingUniversity. In October 1950, as required by the Ministry of Education, the name was changed to NanjingUniversity. With the motto of Sincerity with Aspiration, Perseverance and Integrity, NanjingUniversity has cultivated a great number of talents, contributing greatly to the national prosperity and the revitalization of the Chinese nation.
