On May 6 Zheng Ji, the oldest professor in China from our School of Life Science, celebrated his 110th birthday at Nanjing University with more than 200 guests from Beijing, Jiangsu and abroad. Pan Yi, Vice President of Nanjing University, attended the celebration party and conveyed congratulations and best wishes to Professor Zheng on behalf of our university.
At the celebration party, Professor Zheng thanked everybody for coming and shared his secret for longevity, "Eat regularly and follow a healthy diet. Most importantly, you must keep a good, healthy mood.
Professor Zheng is a well-known nutritionist and biochemist and considered to be the founder of China s biochemistry and modern nutrition science. In 1945, he established a biochemistry research institute to train graduate students, which was the first formal graduate program in China to teach biochemistry. He has been working at Nanjing University since 1959.
