Bali is aiming for a target figure of five million tourist arrivals by 2015. Mangku Pastika, governor of Bali, was quoted as having said that, although this figure represented more than a 100% increase as compared to the 2.4-million target for 2010, he did not feel this was unrealistic. Arrivals to Bali for the first half of the year already record 1.15-million, up from the 1.02-million achieved same time last year, according to a report in Travel Daily Asia.
Pastika is also looking at positioning Bali as a medical tourism hub. Construction of an international standard hospital will begin next year, with US$10.9-million sanctioned from the provincial budget toward the project.
