Hassan Al Thawadi, chief executive of the Qatar FIFA 2022 bidding committee, was quoted as having said that the entire region would benefit as Qatar, the first Middle Eastern country to host the event, could change people s opinions of the area, according to a report in eTravel Blackboard.
Al Thawadi stated that the FIFA would provide a huge boost to Qatar s sports and tourism industry along with ancillary industries surrounding the tournament such as hospitality, services and manufacturing. With Qatar looking to diversify its economy, the World Cup would help to create a more robust private economy in the country.
