Spain seeks privatisation for its top two airports in a bid to cut down on its national debt. Prime Minister Jos Luis Rodr guez Zapatero said he hoped an estimated US$18.17-billion would be raised with this plan, as quoted by TourExpi.
It is planned that Madrid's Barajas and Barcelona's El Prat airports will be run by private operators under a 40-year license system. Zapatero said the country's airport operator AENA will also allow private companies to take up to a 49% stake, above initial plans to sell a 30% stake.
