Qantas to seek compensation from Rolls Royce

Australian carrier Qantas is said to be considering legal action against Rolls Royce. The carrier said it obtained an injunction from the Federal Court of Australia should Qantas and Rolls-Royce fail to reach a settlement.

Qantas had to ground its A380 fleet due to faulty Rolls Royce engines, which has led to financial and operational impacts for the carrier. Simon Rushton, corporate communications officer, Qantas, was quoted as saying he could not elaborate on the costs suffered by the airline, according to a report in eTravelBlackboard.

Despite the financial hitch, Qantas has maintained it would continue working with Rolls-Royce on the Trent 900 inspection programme. The airline has agreed to perform safety inspections every 20-flying cycles as well as carry out a one-off examination of its A380 engines for possible tubing defects.
