Dusseldorf is the second most tourist-friendly city in Germany, according to an independent study by the German Institute of Service Quality released recently.
The high number of visitors is mostly attributed to the city s repertoire of annual festivals and attractions. There was an international draw of four million visitors who came to the Largest Fair on the Rhine; 700,000 to Japan Day; 10,000 to the open air Opera and Ballet for All, and six million visited the famous re-imagined Christmas market, as reported in eTurboNews. The effective marketing strategy by Dusseldorf s tourism office has also contributed to its stellar ranking.
Dusseldorf s tourism numbers is expected to grow in 2011 particularly after being selected as the venue for next year s Eurovision Song Contest.
