The British Airports Authority (BAA) has lost GBP24-million due to December s snow chaos. The airport operator, which operates Heathrow, London Stansted and Edinburgh airports, said it had handled 7.2-million passengers at its six UK hubs in December, down nearly 11% from twelve months ago. BAA claimed the fall in passenger numbers was directly related to the UK s wintery conditions and cited figures being down 9.5% at Heathrow alone, according to a report in Travel Daily UK.
Of BAA s other airports, Southampton was reportedly down by 22% and Edinburgh down by 18.4%. Meanwhile, airline Flybe, which ultimately cancelled almost 2000-flights because of the bad weather, said the snow disruption would cost the carrier in the region of GBP six-million.
