Air India and Indian Airlines share IA code

Air India and Indian Airlines will now share the IA flight code. This move comes almost four years after the two airlines had announced their merger.

The test for the shared flight code was conducted on January 15 of this year and is set to be used on a regular basis starting mid-February this year. A statement released by Air India explained that the joint code came as a requirement entry into the Star Alliance. Passengers flying with the two airlines will no longer hold separate tickets for domestic and international flights, as reported by eTravel Blackboard.

The IA code will be implemented by SITA and will be applied to 19,500-flights operating daily from 1,071-airports in 171-countries.
