The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) has announced their plan for a low-carbon tourism promotion for Chang Island, Thailand.
DASTA wants to focus on the environment in 2011. It will work on three projects from January to September that would take on a low-carbon tourism concept which includes Virtualised Climate Tool, waste management courses and a carbon credit theme.
According to a report in TTR Weekly, tourism on Chang Island emits 47,835 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year or 0.2% of Thailand s annual carbon emission. DASTA aims to educate resort operators on Chang Island about carbon emissions and improve the island s carbon footprint ranking.
