Thailand expands bus links to Laos

The Transport Company Limited of Thailand will open new bus services to Laos, following an agreement signed by the two parties.

According to a report in TTR Weekly, the new bus services will operate on two routes linking Thailand and Laos Khammouan-Nakhon Phanom and Chiang Mai-Luang Prabang. The Khammouan-Nakhon Phanom bus route will start once the third Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is completed, which is expected to be ready by November 2011. The Chiang Mai-Luang Prabang route will start in March this year. The Transport Company Limited of Thailand has allotted THB20-million budget to buy the buses and the fare has been set at THB1,000 per person.

There are currently six bus services that operate between Thailand and Laos which include Vientiane-Nong-Khai, Vientiane-Udon Thani, Vientiane-Khon Kaen, Pakse-Ubon Ratchathani, Sawannaket-Mukdahan, and Vietiane-Nakhon Ratchasima routes.
