The Shanghai Urban and Rural Construction and Transport Commission has unveiled plans for transport development projects that would cut travel time within the city centre.
A series of subways, highways and railways are set to be built in the next five years in an effort to cut journey times. According to a report in Travel Daily Asia, a further 200 kilometres of highways along with 200 kilometres of Metro and rail lines will be developed by the end of 2015. Work on Metro Lines 12, 13 and the extension of Line 11 is scheduled for this year while Line 17 and extensions to lines five, eight, nine and 10 are also part of the plan.
