President Su Zhiwu Led a Delegation to Visit Harvard University and Other Famous Universities in North America, Further Deepening Cooperation between CUC and World-class Universities(40433)

Invited by American and Canadian famous universities, such as Harvard University, the US; Simon Fraser University, Canada, President Su Zhiwu recently led a delegation of CUC to visit nine world-class universities and the international media elites, including Harvard University, Columbia University, University of California, Berkeley; Simon Fraser University of Canada, Concordia University and so on.

During the 10-day visit, President Su Zhiwu met respectively with Vice President Jacqueline of Harvard University, President Andrew of Simon Fraser University and other visiting university presidents, vice presidents and professors. During the talks, President Su conducted in-depth exchanges with his couterparts, introduced to them the educational philosophy, school characteristics and development objectives of CUC, in particular the development of CUC in recent years, expressing the willing to build substantive exchange relationship with world-class universities in the United States and Canada.

Each university attached great importance to the visit of the delegation of CUC, and made thoughtful arrangements. The visiting school leaders thought highly of the status of CUC in the Chinese media education and the development of CUC in recent years, and showed great interest in cooperating with CUC, expressing the willing to strengthen ties and deepen cooperation with CUC. The two sides discussed the areas, projects and specific models of cooperation in depth, and made the implementation plan and steps to promote further cooperation.

During the visit, the delegation of CUC carried out extensive exchanges with the visiting school leaders and experts, visited the unique institute, studio hall and laboratory of each university, and signed a cooperation agreement with Simon Fraser University, making substantial progress in many fields. According to the minutes of the talks and the agreement, CUC and visiting universities would carry out cooperation in various forms and substantive exchanges in the aspects of joint academic research, exchange visits of teachers, exchange learning of students, joint training of students and so on, particularly focusing on the priority to carry out student exchange programs, including undergraduate 2+2, 3+1, joint training of dual masters and PhD candidates, joint training of masters of Journalism and Communication, and masters of Arts.

During the visit, University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Los Angeles andEmerson College signed Covenant of the League, to join the "International League of Media Higher Education", initiated by CUC in Beijing in September last year. The newly joined three universities highly appreciated the initiating and the establishment of "International League of Media Higher Education" of CUC, viewing it as a significant contribution CUC made to the international media education, which would certainly promote the cooperation and development of higher media education in the world. The new league members said, they would pledge to take full advantage of the platform of "International League of Media Higher Education", to enhance mutual cooperation and exchanges, at the same time, as the League members, they would try their best to play a role and make contributions to the construction and development of the league.

President Su Zhiwu expressed congratulations to the three schools for their joining. He thought their newly joining the League meant that the League family had gained new academic strength. He stressed that the aim of "International League of Media Higher Education" is to build a communication platform for media colleges all over the world, to better promote the cooperation and contact among the League colleges, as well as the international higher education in media. Communication University of China, as the League initiator, would further strengthen to build the platform of the league, serve for the training of excellent media personnel with worlds standard and the world media education.

This visit had achieved some important results:

It opened the new cooperation between CUC and world-class universities. The visiting American schools, such as Harvard University, Columbia University, are the best American universities, and the world-class universities. For delegation of CUC it was the first official visit to Harvard University The interaction and exchange with these universities would help to expand the cooperation between CUC and world famous schools, to enhance the international visibility and academic influence of CUC, and to speed up the pace of CUC to construct a world famous media university.

The visits deepened the cooperation between CUC and the world media elites. CUCs cooperation agreement of joint training the Master of "Global Communications Policy" with Simon Fraser University, Concordia University Summer School Cooperation, student projects of joint shooting documentary of University of Southern California and so on, had been already lauched, thereby further consolidating the cooperation with the above media elites.

It contributed to a new development of "International League of Media Higher Education". The visit had absorbed three famous schools in the United States to join the league, thus, the league schools of "International League of Media Higher Education" had increased to 44 compared to 36 when it was established. This not only showed the influence of the league continued to expand, but also laid a good foundation for the league schools to carry out multilateral and bilateral cooperations.

The visit is part of the "second pioneering" strategy of CUC. It had important value and significance in the construction of a world-renowned and high level media university and world-class disciplines of CUC, and in the promotion of international education and international academic exchanges and cooperation. Particularly the visit explored actively new cooperation modes docking with the world elite based on the effective platform of "International League of Media Higher Education",and laid the foundation for CUC to build herself into a world-renowned and high level media university.

During the visit, President Su Zhiwu also visited some students, staff and alumni of CUC in the United States and Canada, further strenghthened the ties between CUC and her overseas alumni.
