Sir Howard Newby and Professor Xi meet the Deputy Minister of Education

(XJTLU, China, 30th March) On the afternoon of 29th March, Deputy Minister of Education, Ms Li Weihong, met with Sir Howard Newby (Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool (UoL)) and Professor Xi Youmin (Executive President of XJTLU), in the capital Beijing.
Ms Li briefed the China s National Plan for Medium and Long-term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020) to Professor Newby and Professor Xi, and emphasised the importance of improving the quality and level of China s higher education. She pointed out that XJTLU is a successful experience of the cooperation between UoL and Xi an Jiaotong University.
The Deputy Minister of Education expressed her expectation of XJTLU to be a model of Sino-foreign cooperative universities, and also help stimulate the reform and development of China s higher education.
Professor Xi introduced the latest achievement of XJTLU as well as the University s research strategy and progress, and concept of importing high-level teaching resources.
Sir Howard confirmed the consisting support of UoL to XJTLU. He hopes the further exploration for XJTLU s new level of growth will contribute to China s higher education reform and development.
