On 15th March, the opening ceremony of XJTLU Simultaneous Interpreting Lab was held at the Science Building.
It is introduced that the facilities of this lab are of high quality and level within Suzhou and even the whole Yangtze River Delta. In this semester, this lab will be used for language learning, interpreting training, assessment and many more teaching-related functions.
In addition, a special feature of this system is to simulate international conference. This will benefit the students on both skills practising and pressure handling.
Vice President of XJTLU, Professor David Sadler said: The average time-lag between source voice and simultaneous interpretation is only 3 to 4 seconds, which is a very high criterion for professional interpreters,
We hope our students could practise their abilities in thinking, responding and translating through the use of this lab.
Suzhou is an international city, and also often holds multi-national conferences. Therefore, interpreting professionals are highly demanded. Our university hopes to use these facilities to cultivate more professional interpreting talents.
