On the morning of Oct. 21, Tan Zhemin, assistant to the president of NJU, met with Professor Madeleine Atkins from Coventry University and her two colleagues. The two sides held talks on the cooperation and exchange in the future. Other attendants included directors from the department of history, the department of education, the Career Development Center, School of Public Administration and the Center for International Exchange.
During the meeting, Assistant Tan, Vice Chancellor Prof. Madeleine Atkins and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. David Pilsbury talked over the issue of exchange in the field of public administration. The two sides agreed on future cooperation and exchange in disciplines such as enterprise, Metallic Materials, health, virtual environment, mathematics, industrial design engineering, water studies, energy studies, emergency response and history.
The cooperation between the two universities began in 2001, when a long-term cooperative research project was established by the world history branch of the department of history of NJU and the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies in Coventry University. This was the first center of peace studies in China. On April 27, 2005, Vice Chancellor Madeleine Atkins visited NJU for the first time. Party Secretary Hong Yinxing met with the British delegation and talked over the cooperation in the topic of peace and reconciliation.
