On Nov. 4, Prof. Robert Wilson from Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Nobel Prize winner in Physics, visited NJU and gave a lecture.
President Chen Jun met with the guest and had a talk on the future cooperation between the two institutions. Other participants included directors from the department of astronomy and the Center for International Cooperation and Exchange.
In the evening, Prof. Wilson gave a lecture titled the Discovery of Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation and Its Application in Cosmology . The lecture was co-hosted by the Purple Mountain Observatory and NJU.
Prof. Wilson is one of the astronomers who discovered cosmic microwave background radiation. This discovery is considered to be one of the greatest contributions to astronomy. Prof. Wilson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1978.
