On the morning of Oct. 31, Hon. Dalton McGuinty, Governor of the Province of Ontario, and Vice Chancellor David Johnston of University of Waterloo visited NJU to attend the opening ceremony of the Sino-Canadian School in NJU. Deputy President Zhang Rong presided over the ceremony. Party Secretary Hong Yinxing attended the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Secretary Hong gave a speech, pointing out that internationalization has been one of the strategies of NJU to achieve her goal of becoming a world-class university. NJU has established cooperative relationships with many Canadian universities and the University of Waterloo is one the most important partners of NJU. The two universities have been cooperating in academic research, operation strategies and community service. Vice Chancellor Johnston also gave his speech. Later, Governor McGuinty, Vice Chancellor Johnston and Secretary Hong unveiled the logo of the Sino-Canadian School together. The logo is composed of a maple leaf, a five-pointed star and two reversed V-shaped characters ( ren in Chinese, which means people).
During the ceremony, Governor McGuinty was given the title of honorary professor of NJU for his efforts in promoting the friendly exchanges between Jiangsu and Ontario and his support for the cooperation between the University of Waterloo and NJU. Secretary Hong awarded him the letter of appointment. Governor McGuinty later gave a speech titled Canada and China: Building Prosperity Together .
After the ceremony, Secretary Hong and Vice Chancellor Johnston signed an agreement on the cooperation in the undergraduate program of computer science and discussed the perspective of future cooperation between the two universities.
