The education tenet of Chongqing University is to make contribution to the public and the society.
Peng Xiaodong, chief librarian of the Library of Chongqing University, along with the representative students of Dandelion Volunteer Club and 20,750 books collected, left for Beichuan on March 14, 2011. Li Chun, chief librarian of the Library of Beichuan County, received the visitors and showed them the new library of Qiang ethnic minority style. Subsequently, a simple book donation ceremony was held. Xu Changfa, deputy county mayor of Beichuan County, on behalf of Beichuan people, expressed his acknowledgement to Chongqing University. A book may light up a Beichuan person s dream and console each earthquake survivor, said Xu. After the donation ceremony, Peng Xiaodong and the group visited the Earthquake Relics of Beichuan County and mourned the victims.
Support for Sichuan, the brother of Chongqing
Sichuan was struck by an eight magnitude earthquake on May 12, 2008. Beichuan County was one of the main affected areas. The library of the county was razed to the ground in an instant and chief librarian Li Chun was buried for more than 70 hours before she was rescued. In order to help Beichuan people, the Library of Chongqing University and Dandelion Volunteer Club co-started the Reconstruction Project of the Library of Beichuan County , collected books and equipment from the university and the society, established the website of the Library of Beichuan County to provide readers with on-line book service, and stored all books collected at the Temporary Stack Room of the Library of Beichuan County set up by the Library of Chongqing University.
Best wishes for earthquake-hit Beichuan County
The government of China decided to reconstruct the earthquake stricken area on June 11, 2008. After more than one year s efforts, the new Beichuan County had been set up. In the morning of September 25, 2010, the new county officially opened. Since October 2010, over 40,000 residents have successively moved into the new county
