Vice-president Bai Chenguang met with the delegation led by Tevor Newsom, president s international affairs consultant of Queen s University Belfast, at the main building on Sept. 23, 2010, with the participation of relevant staff from the College of Material Science and Engineering, the College of Construction Management and Real Estate and the International Office of Chongqing University, mainly discussing the further cooperation plan on the basis of the current cooperation between the two universities.
Chongqing University has kept a long-term cooperative relationship with Queen s University Belfast in terms of electrics, material and construction management. Now together with Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, Chongqing University has participated in the Science Bridge Scheme which is known as the currently largest cooperative project between UK and China covering the fields of electrics, energy and automatic control.
Vice-president Bai proposed at the meeting that the two sides should enhance the cooperation in terms of joint cultivation of doctoral students, exchange visit of bilateral teachers, etc. to strengthen the current communication base. For joint cultivation of doctoral students, Chongqing University will encourage and support more students to go to Queen s University Belfast for further study and will also enlarge the study field from engineering to natural science, social science, etc. For exchange of teachers, Chongqing University hopes that Queen s University Belfast can share the teacher resources so as to improve CQU s ability of teaching, scientific research and international communication. Mr. Newsom expressed his consent to this proposal and hoped that the two sides could sign the intercollegiate cooperation agreement in the near future so that those projects could be confirmed in writing and implemented as soon as possible.
