Seoul launches first commercial electric bus

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) has launched the world s first commercial operation full-size electric buses. The eco-friendly buses run the Mt. Namsan circular routes.
SMG signed an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hankuk Fiber in September 2009 to develop electric buses. They aim to have 120,000 electric vehicles in use in the city by 2020. SMG believes that the electric bus services will not only improve air conditions in the city but also lead the technology of large-sized electric vehicles in the global electric car market, according to a report in eTurboNews.
The electric bus, with maximum speed of 100-kilometres per hour, is 11.05-metres long and can run up to 83-kilometres with a single charge.
