Low cost carriers (LCCs) operating in Kuala Lumpur s Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang are set to move to the new purpose-built hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) starting October 2012.
The KLIA2 is a 150,000-square metre facility with an estimated cost of construction of US$653-million. According to a report in Travel Daily Asia, the new airport will have a passenger capacity of around 30-million passengers per year. This is approximately double that of the existing LCCT which will then be converted into a cargo terminal.
