The Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AA) is set for Phase 1 of their midfield development project and have announced the completion of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) facility enhancement project.
Phase 1 includes building a new midfield concourse with 20 aircraft parking stands, a new cross-field taxiway and the extension of the existing automated people mover (APM) to the midfield concourse. Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-Tung, chairman, AA, was quoted in Travel Daily Asia as having said that to meet future demand, the new concourse would ultimately enable about 10-million passengers a year to embark and disembark aircraft using air bridges.
The project is estimated to cost HK$ seven billion and construction will commence in the third quarter of 2011. It is expected to be completed by end of 2015 and is anticipated to generate 2,000 jobs.
