Thailand and China have reached an agreement on a joint high-speed rail project to connect the two countries.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) is to be signed in April 2011 to seal the deal. According to a report in Travel Daily India, the project will consist of five main lines connecting Bangkok with Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Padang Besar, Chachoengsao and Nong Khao. From the Thai-Laos border in Nong Khao, the trains will link to Vientiane and then to Kunming, Yunnan province in China. The new rail link service is expected to be ready in 2015.
