Hunan Commends Outstanding Athletes of Guangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games

Provincial leaders such as Zhou Qiang and Hu Biao meet with the athlete representatives.

The Commendation Meeting for Hunan's Outstanding Athletes and Coaches in 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games was held in Changsha on the afternoon of February 10. Zhou Qiang, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and Hu Biao, chairman of CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee, attended the meeting and presented awards to the recipients.

Hunan sent 14 athletes to 20 events of the fiercely competitive Asian Games. They lived up to the expectations of Hunan people with tenacious struggle and good performance, capturing 12 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. Hunan weightlifter Li Ping, in particular, was the only athlete to break world record twice. All of the Hunan athletes scored medals in the Guangzhou Asian Games, making the province's results more fruitful than in the last Asian Games. In addition, four Hunan athletes performed well in three events of Asian Para Games, winning four golds and two silvers and breaking one Asian record.
