Thailand Consulate-General in Guangzhou Pisanu Suvanajata visited Dongguan on February 24. Vice Mayor of Dongguan Jiang Lin warmly received the delegation. The two parties have reached a preliminary agreement for extended cooperation with respect to tourism, agriculture and economic trade.
In 2009, the export volume of Dongguan to Thailand amounted to US$ 310 million, a decrease of a little more than 20% compared with the previous year. The import volume from Thailand into Dongguan was US$1.47 billion, accounting for almost 3.8% of the city s total import volume.
"Now the Thai people are becoming more familiar with Dongguan," said Pisanu, as the news that Thai Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol gave several performances in Dongguan last December has been widely spread throughout Thailand.
Pisanu also said that the Thai delegations were interested in city construction and will accordingly be recommended to visit Dongguan as a model example. "Thai enterprises in Dongguan are quite satisfied with Dongguan governments' supportive policies," added Pisanu.
Thai fruit is internationally famous. Thai fruit such as durian, pomelo, longan and mangosteen have long been popular with Chinese people. Pisanu agreed that there is a promising future for the mutual cooperation between Thailand and China. Jiang Lin also suggested that agricultural and sideline products from Thailand can be processed and sold directly in Dongguan during the foreseeable future.
