(XJTLU, China - October 11th, 2010) The new semester of 2010-2011 has started and students and staff alike, are well into the swing of things. Indonesian students in Xi an Jiaotong-Liverpool University felt it was time to organise their first activity of this semester.
The Indonesian room is a representation of the Indonesian students and their culture in XJTLU. The Indonesian theme room, which was officially opened last semester, coordinated with other university clubs last year, such as charity club and buddy program. This time, sponsored by the CCC (Colorful Culture Club) Indonesian students introduced some of the local dishes.
The event itself was open for anyone within the university. The main purpose is, of course, to introduce the Indonesian students and their cultures to the wider community. The second purpose is to collect money to fund future activities. Another benefit is to help the students to communicate with each other in English.
The event was hailed a success due to the fact that all the food and drink was sold out. However, the most important achievement was that the students and volunteers learnt that teamwork and communication in English are vital to an event like this running smoothly. The customers who sampled the dishes on offer were not only students but also teachers; the opportunity of sharing smiles and a small part of Indonesian culture was a big satisfaction for the hosts.
