XJTLU, China - 9th Sept. Professor Jeremy Smith was elected as Outstanding Educator in Suzhou , in Xi an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, becoming he only foreign receiver of the honor this year. The result was announced at an awards ceremony in celebration of National Teachers Day, presided over by Yan Li, Deputy Party Secretary of CPC Municipal Suzhou Committee and Mayor of Suzhou Municipal Government. Mr. Jiang Hongkun of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Party Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee delivered keynote speeches to greet all people working in the education undertaking with festive wishes.
Prof. Smith has played an important part in the establishment of XJTLU ever since 2005 and was appointed as Head of Registry Office at XJTLU in May 2006. By Dec.,2007, he was inaugurated as Vice President of XJTLU, overseeing the academic departments, teaching center, research office, campus development, library and IT.
He has been one of the leading contributors to improving the education quality assurance system, discipline configuration and scientific research at XJTLU and has always tried to integrate the educational and cultural essences of both the East and the West. Given the exceptional contributions made to the educational development of Suzhou, he was elected as Outstanding Educator in Suzhou for 2008 and Suzhou Model Worker in 2009.
I m very proud to have contributed to the rapid development of XJTLU. The credit should go to all staff members at the University who have played a vital role in the fast growth of XJTLU. The honor is of greater importance to recognize their hard work and appreciate their contribution.
Prof. Jeremy Smith ended his tenure at XJTLU until the end of August, 2010 and has since resumed his work back at the University of Liverpool.
