XJTLU Welcomes 2010 New Students

(XJTLU, China-22nd Aug 2010) Xi an Jiaotong-Liverpool University held 2010 opening ceremony at Dushu Lake Gymnasium to welcome its fifth cohort of students, more than 1,700 in total. The ceremony, proceeded in dual languages was presided over by Zou Yiwen, a third-year student of the University.

Prof. Tao Wenquan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of XJTLU, keynoted the ceremony to congratulate the 1,700-plus newly admitted students on their joining of XJTLU.

Prof. Xi Youmin, Executive President of XJTLU delivered a speech to reflect the 4- year history the University has been through and enumerate the achievements the first graduates have ever attained. He believed that students of XJTLU, guided by 5-Star Educational Model , are all happy to live and study for a career success in the future and make it a core ideology to devote to and uphold. Prof Xi also wished them to move on and work out new miracles in the miracle-born university.

Liu Xinyi from Beijing is an enrolled student with highest score among all 2010 new students and she addressed at the ceremony on behalf of them: I believe XJTLU is where our dreams will take off. Its unique educational concept, management system, organizational structure and institutional culture all make me believe that I will make my dream come true here.

In the parent meeting ensuing, Vice President Prof. Yang expounded University s culture, structure and management procedure, etc. Afterwards, Prof Xi and Prof Yang gave all present parents a one-hour Q&A session, answering questions from earnest and curious parents.

XJTLU enrolled a record-breaking 1,745 students this year covering 29 provinces and extra 5 degree programs were newly opened. New student registrations have been completed by August 21.

This year, 57 new students won entrance scholarships. Among them were 19 winners of the first prize (60,000 RMB), who were enrolled over 70 points higher than the local threshold score and another 38 second-prize winners admitted at least 50 points higher with 30,000 RMB each. All new students will receive physical examination, orientation training and military training within half a month to come and the new semester will begin on Sept.6th.
