Vice President of Shenzhen University Visits XJTLU

(XJTLU, China 21 October 2010) The Vice President of Shenzhen University, Professor Li Fengliang and his entourage visited XJTLU today and met with Executive President Professor Xi Youmin.

During Prof. Xi's briefing on XJTLU s development, educational model and recent achievements, Prof. Li, the VP of Shenzhen University, praised XJTLU s success in being awarded national research funding within such a short time.

Prof. Li stated that the purpose of his visit was to learn more about XJTLU s experience as a Sino-Foreign cooperative higher institution. He remarked that amongst peer universities, the vision, mission, rate of development and substantial achievements that XJTLU has showcased is very impressive. Shenzhen University is located in a dynamic, internationalised area, which could lend itself to the development of a similar Sino-foreign model.

Prof. Xi emphasized that the first priority of starting a joint programme is to find an appropriate niche, mission and have a long-tern strategic developing plan. Prof. Xi believed that the achievements of XJTLU first graduates of this year have proved the value of the university s innovation on education model and philosophy.

According to statistics, 97% of XJTLU s first graduated continued their studies in world renowned universities such as Cambridge, University College of London, Imperial College, etc.. 67 graduate students, out of 137 (48%), received First Honours Bachelor s Degrees, and this proportion was three times higher than 2008-2009 UK total Non-European graduates, 13%.

In addition, Prof. Xi expressed appreciation to Suzhou civic departments, SIP, and Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District and their supports. He said that motivated by the strong determination of parent universities and support from Suzhou city, XJTLU will step on a new stage of development.
