SHANXI UNIVERSITY HELD A GRAND 108-ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

In the afternoon of May 8, 2010, Shanxi University held a grand Chinese symphony concert in the gymnasium to celebrate her 108th anniversary. Universityleaders Qin Liangyu, Guo Guichun, Zhang Hanjing, Li Zhongren, Zhao Huaizhou, Liu Weiqi, Xing Long, Yang Jun gathered together with alumni representatives and some teachers and students to celebrate the 108th anniversary of their alma mater.

In thecelebration ceremony, President Guo Guichun affectionately delivered a speech carrying forward the grand past and looking into the bright future . First of all, he extended warm welcome and sincere greetings to the participating alumni on behalf of all the teachers and students of Shanxi University. He also extended festival greetings and best regards to all those who graduated from Shanxi University, and to those who have been caring for and supporting the development of Shanxi University. He said setting up universities is a landmark in the progress of a country s civilization. In 1902, our forerunners founded Shanxi Grand School near Wenying Lake with sincere patriotism, creating a new era of higher education in modern Shanxi, and even in modern China. Now, Shanxi University further clings to her faith to construct a model research university in Shanxi, striking up a brand new tune of creating a high-level university with distinctive regional characteristics, beginning a heroic journey of taking the lead in the regional development of higher education. With 108 years development, Shanxi University has kept growing vigorously. With great confidence President Guo wished the university a more splendid tomorrow and more brilliant future.

Guo Yuhuai an alumna who once studied in the School of Life Sciences expressed the most sincere blessings on behalf of all the alumni to their alma mater's birthday. He hoped that the current teachers and students, old and new alumni could join hands to devote their energy and efforts to building Shanxi University into a world-class university.

In the celebration ceremony, the university also commended and awarded ten alumni for their outstanding achievements.
