Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of our university Li Zhongren gave the Youth Friendship Exchange Group a hospitable reception and extended a warm welcome to them. He said that the friendship between China and Japan had a long history, in which the friendly communication between the youth of the two countries especially played an important role. Japanese colleges and universities are the closest friends of our foreign exchange. Every year, some undergraduates, postgraduates and teachers of our university are sent to Tokyo International University, Yokohama National University, Kokushikan University and Rikkyo University to vist and study. Li Zhongren hoped that the youth of China and Japan would strengthen their communication, promote their understanding, form their friendship and make themselves the messengers of the friendship between China and Japan.

On the morning of that day, the group members first had a discussion with student representatives of our university at the conference room on the 9th floor of the Arts Building on the following four topics: environment, volunteer service, educational system and the friendly exchange of the youth between China and Japan. During the discussion, they came to know their mutual interests and reached an agreement that the youth of the two countries should make common efforts to protect the environment of the earth, to make volunteer service a lifestyle of college students, to inherit the education of morals and decencies and to spread the seeds of the friendship between China and Japan by forming friendships among the youth of the two countries.

In the course of visiting the campus, the exhibition of the university s history and the art gallery of Mr. Yao Dianzhong, the Japanese youth students were all amazed at the rapid development of our university. They stopped for a long time by the exhibition board on which some pictures and words of the early Chinese students studying in Japan were printed, recalling together these predecessors of the friendship exchange between China and Japan. They listened to the interpretations about calligraphy, painting and so on, gaining an insight into the extensive and profound traditional Chinese culture. At the sports meet of interest and at the party, the youth of China and the youth of Japan were jointly engaging in each well-designed and interesting event and were also putting on wonderful art performances with distinctive national and cultural characteristics on the stage, which pushed the exchange activities to a climax.
